First Friday

On the first Friday of every month (May-Oct), a block party is held in downtown Mount Vernon. Activities include entertainment for the whole family, featuring live music, balloon sculpting, Moon Bounce, and a petting zoo. Be sure to come downtown for dinner at one of our local restaurants or purchase food and beverages from local vendors.

Farmer's Market

Every Saturday throughout the summer, the Mount Vernon Farmer’s Market is held on the Square. You will be a short walk away from fresh fruits & vegetables, eggs, local honey, baked goods, and much more!

Knox County Fair

The Knox County Fair highlights the awareness of agriculture as an important and continuing industry in the county. Each year the Knox County Fair places a strong emphasis on youth activities and accomplishments. The Fair is host to a variety of junior fair activities ranging from 4-H booths to animal showmanship competitions to the crowning of fair royalty.

Dan Emmett Festival

The Dan Emmett Festival is a celebration of American music commemorating Mount Vernon's own Daniel Decatur Emmett, the author and composer of many 19th century songs. Emmett's tunes, such as Dixie, Blue Tail Fly, Ole Dan Tucker, and Turkey in the Straw, bring back the nostalgia of our heritage into each of our hearts. The Festival is a showcase for the talents of musicians, artisans, and crafters from Ohio and beyond.

Woodward Opera House

The Woodward Opera House, America's Oldest Authentic 19th Century Theater, is being restored to its 19th century appearance but with the 21st century amenities required for operating a theater. Tours of the Woodward Opera House are available during special downtown events.
